hyperdub kick off 2008 they way they intend to proceed, with new tracks from a new artist. on her debut release, ikonika comes with her own very unique, warped yet soulful bleep sound. with shape shifting beats that switch styles every few bars its hard to pin these two tracks down... cos if it was easy, it just wouldnt be hyperdub. both tunes are one minute minimal, one minute maximal, driven along by ikonikas special combination of wonky synth and deep swingin sub bass melodies that place them somewhere between an early, blocky grime instrumental and the sweeter side of detroit techno ? except with better bass of course! who needs a vocalist when your synth can sing like this? quite how kode9 manages to keep unveiling new producers of such abundant talent is a conun drum, but one to be cracked some other time when we?re not so busy keeping up with his astonishing labels ceaseless march into the future.

when i first started making the drum on my mpc it sounded like a battle of drums i then added some stabs from the machines, trying to make it sound like the oldschool chicago tracks. this track is all about editing, drum programming and of course the inimitable tap repeat touch that only the mpc can generate. the end result is ninted house, a pure floor killer for all you real house heads. the clash is not a reference to the band but i felt the track goes well with ninted house it has the same mpc groove. stabs and hip hop sampled voices that remind us of those kind of tracks, where editing and sound mixing are more important than the musical elements. its that breadth in house music that i love. enjoy those two floor killers and dance ur ass off! franck roger

a very special compost release with two very rare tracks! the a-side features a great remix of beanfields >tides< with amazing vocals from bajka - of course its not quite up there with the unbelievable carl craig mix but then that would be an uphill struggle. ripperton from the lazy fat people adds his moody, deep slant to the track, less anthemic than carl craig but a more than welcome alternative. this mix was available for a short time as bootleg with ricardo villaloboss remix of depeche modes >sinner in me< on the flip and sold out quickly despite the poor sound quality. finally, one year later, this great tune sees it official release completely remasterd in chrystal clear sound - get it, play it, love it! in 2006 the duo tom wieland and marc frank - better known as 7 samurai - crafted a fine remix of invisible sessions under their panoptikum moniker. when michael reinboth considered this remix for his new future sounds of jazz compilation the guys decided to contribute even a little bit more: an excusive new version which became a definitely highlight of the whole compilation. the panoptikum 2007 remix surprisingly takes a leaf out of innervisions book for a smooth deep houser with a slighty techy sound and a touch of detroit in the vein of Âme or henrik schwarz. in contrast to the vocal version included on fsoj this 12inch features the trippy instrumental version. ace stuff! two must have tracks - all killer, no filler!

sometimes, its still worth not to waste your youth with nonsense but to learn to play an instrument. like in the case of sebastian mullaert, who has learned to play violin, organ and piano, while his partner marcus henriksson rather came from kraftwerk and human league to electronic music. as son kite, the two swedes have already a well-known name in the psy-trance scene, and as minilogue, they now start to conquer the minimal and house world. with their rather unique sound, they manage the tightrope walk between minimal and trance and never allow us to put them into a drawer. especially with their debut on cocoon rec, minilogue present themselves in a different way, compared to their releases on traum or wagon repair. >jamaica< is a calm track at the first hearing and is perfect for building up a set. beginning with bird-like sounds, the track builds up slowly and quickly becomes very interesting and tricky, ramifies as organic as a climbing plant, and when the tribal sound emerges from the underground, this track has exactly what makes minilogue so special: organic matter and groovy sounds, worked into a minimal labyrinth with very much love for the details. all of that can also be found on the b side which seems to be more adequate for the morning hours, with its somehow spacey sound. with >jamaica<, mullaert and henriksson prove that they are floating on the very surface of the endless minimal ocean. and with their album >animals< being already in sight on cocoon recordings, one can be highly anxious of what is coming ahead, by minilogue and techno made in sweden

with his now second release on mauritius, marc vision might still be a newbie to the label, but definitely not to the scene. apart from being an experienced dj since ages with a deep bond to germanys superclub >tribehouse<, he can look back on diverse releases as vision & canedy (on scuba, avalanche, plusquam & hadshot rec.), vita (together with trance pioneer taucher on labels such as tracid traxx & on a mission), visiontool (together with marc o tool on andry nalins label superfly rec.) and finally as marc vision himself (on mauritius, poison, underworld & earregular rec.). >obsession< leaves no doubt being a sure floor filler. subtly but effective the track begins with a deep bassline and develops into a kooky rave-house-monster. >the finest< on the flipside tackles things deeper and more atmospheric, but when a bulky bassline suddenly says hello half way of the track, the unmistakable command is hands up!

excellent and rare set from the highly respected roots group cultural roots originally released in 1984, which is now re mastered and gets a vinyl repress for the first in well over 20 years. recorded at channel one studios, jamaica, produced by henry junjo lawes, mixed by scientist and utilising the talents of the roots radics, this album still sounds as fresh and thrilling as it did when it was originally released. the albums features the popular love feelings, cut of john holts evergreen police in helicopter rhythm and the big hit hell a go pop a big favourite with reggae sound systems during 1984.

golem episode 3 : he has now left the earth to conquer the universe. and this 12inch deliver us the soundtrack of this space odyssey ! on a side youll find spacerock. this time, contrary to what you could think when youre listening to it, its not an edit of a forgotten italo b-side but an original track done this year by a famous french producers duo. no need to launch the worldwide nerd contest to find who did it in the late 70s.... on b-side, a.l-t. give us 2 new edits. reaching to the sky is an early electronic piece, hypnotic and completely weird with its guitar >à la morricone< ! and cosmic rocket, with its powerful drum and its siren all along the track, prove us how a 70s psychedelic library music production could be a dancefloor filler ! an epic song which sounds like chemical brothers produced by vangelis !

when we released the first atom-1 with hertz, we couldnt believe how big it would grow with support from the whole swedish mafia (lekebusch, mull, ozgur etc). this time hertz is back with 3 new tracks to die for and a remix from ozgur can (truesoul, pickadoll, harthouse, mouseville) that will do the trick! we call this funky, minimal techno at its best

its almost 4 years to the day that jeff samuels >throatwobbler mangrove ep< was released on karloff #03, and even today the four world hits of the record are getting digged out by djs, when the minimalism needs to either groove or jack again. so now with >return of the throatwobbler< theres finally an appropriate follow-up by the man from seattle.. erm.. berlin, after he’s impressively run riot in the meantime, on labels like spectral, trapez, poker flat, frankie and logistic. the a-side >terso< is shuffling and twirling and bouncing in such a winsome way that not many can master like jeff samuel. almost like an electric ray - left and right and left, and without letting any tempting gimmicks take the mind off the straight path. appropriately enough, >the spook< on the b-side comes along a bit more spookily, with a bassline twisting into the brain, ripped up by miniatures of bleeps and chords just in the right moments, and thus leading the track to an agile, exhilarated climax

after his first release on flash recordings together with daso on the night express ep, pawas is now back with his very own three-track ep on the label of koletzki & meindl. all tracks were created in pune in india, pawas’ hometown, and the ep is about three different characters. alicia, charlie and edward. each one of them has a certain distinctive vibe about them: alicia is deep and eloquent, edward is more hectic and restless while charlie seems the funky and witty sort. in terms of music, edward is carried on a powerful, deep synthie melody, a big breathing bassline and some great percussive clicks and clacks that turn into a slightly ravey minimal burner later on in the tune. very hot! edward is a little lighter and is pushed forward by a great funky melody that creates the perfect after hour moment. imagine yourself on the beach when the sun is coming up. alicia on the a side is a deeper, more housy affair has a melodic, percussive and detroity appeal. pawas has managed to create a very fresh and unique signature sound and with releases on squonk, connaisseur and flash records, 2007 seems to be the year for him.
